AS6171 method families
| Slash sheet | Method | What it shows |
|---|---|---|
| AS6171/2 | External Visual Inspection (EVI) | Markings, body finish, lead condition, surface anomalies versus OEM datasheet. |
| AS6171/3 | X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) | Material composition of leads / packaging — re-marked or counterfeit lead chemistry. |
| AS6171/4 | Delid / Decapsulation Physical Analysis | Die markings, manufacturer identification, internal construction. |
| AS6171/5 | Radiological Inspection (X-ray) | Internal structure — lead frames, bond wires, die attachment, voids. |
| AS6171/6 | Acoustic Microscopy | Delamination, cracks, and internal package defects. |
| AS6171/7 | Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) | Material thermal-decomposition signature — counterfeit / re-cured packaging. |
| AS6171/8 | Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) | Resin and remarking chemistry. |
| AS6171/9 | Raman Spectroscopy | Polymer / resin identification. |
| AS6171/10 | Design Recovery | Reverse-engineering to compare against datasheet behavior. |
| AS6171/11 | Electrical / Curve Trace Test | DC parameters, behavior under typical test conditions. |
How we choose tests
- Risk score derived from part class, OEM source posture, lot date code, market demand vs. obsolescence, and chain-of-custody completeness.
- Low-risk lines: documentation review and EVI (AS6171/2).
- Medium-risk lines: add X-ray (AS6171/5) and XRF (AS6171/3).
- High-risk lines: add electrical / curve trace (AS6171/11) and, where warranted, decapsulation (AS6171/4) at an accredited lab.
- Customer-flowed test plans (e.g. DFARS 252.246-7007 covered programs) are honored as written.
Labs we commission
Where escalated tests are required, we commission ISO/IEC 17025 accredited labs whose scope includes AS6171 methods. Lab selection, certificate, and report flow into the part's permanent record and travel with the part on release.
Limitations
Tests don't replace trace
Even AS6171 testing cannot guarantee a counterfeit will be detected if a sufficiently capable adversary has matched the OEM. Documentation, trace, and trusted sources remain primary controls; testing is a check, not a substitute.
